Stream

A poem by Bethany N. Bella

She awakens
Running after sunlight
Quenching her thirst
Streaming down the hillside
Blood pounding
Pouring
Overflowing
Budding up
Buckling up
Puddling over
and Over
Down
Down
Down
Under fields
Over asphalt
Careening
Endearing
The water has waited
She has waited
For winter’s thaw
To think
The water waited
She waited
A patient persistence
Until the till became soft
The way ahead is waiting
She waited
And now she runs
Open the flood gates
Flooding the system
Overdrive
Over
and Over
No one can stop her
